Draft Project Institute in Roquetas de Mar (Almería) 2022

The secondary school is conceived as a linear piece that organizes the site and defines the exterior spaces, generating a clear urban frontage and a gradual transition through porches and sheltered gathering areas. Its layout articulates courtyards, sports facilities, and social spaces, integrating built form and void into a unified system. The proposed spatial organization responds directly to the established programmatic requirements, optimizing usable floor area while dimensioning circulation spaces in accordance with current regulations.

Natural lighting is resolved through classroom bands with large openings protected by vertical louvers, ensuring homogeneous daylight and effective solar control. Shared spaces incorporate double-height volumes and generous openings that introduce deep natural light and reinforce the interior environmental quality.

Circulation is structured through covered intermediate spaces and courtyards, with a shaded entrance functioning as a transitional threshold. The circulation system is clear, open, and continuously linked to the exterior, promoting orientation, cross ventilation, and the social use of common areas.

The construction is based on a reinforced concrete frame structure that frees the ground floor, combined with a modular envelope incorporating lattice screens that integrate climate control, durability, and material coherence in earthy tones.

In relation to its context, the building responds to the Mediterranean climate through shade, vegetation, and intermediate spaces, generating microclimates and creating an educational environment that is ordered, efficient, and fully adapted to its urban surroundings.
