2nd Prize in the Competition for the Design of the New Maternal and Child Hospital
This project, prepared for the competition for the Maternal and Child Hospital of Almería, proposes an implantation strictly aligned with the regulations of the current General Urban Development Plan (P.G.O.U.), as well as with the specific requirements set out in the tender specifications.
The proposal is formalized through two differentiated building volumes, functionally and spatially linked by an elevated connecting walkway. This volumetric strategy enables an appropriate accommodation of the functional program, optimizing internal circulation and relationships, while freeing up plot area for potential future developments. This release of built surface is compensated by a localized increase in height of two additional levels.
The building’s material and spatial definition follows a unified design approach aimed at ensuring optimal conditions of comfort, legibility, and environmental control, through solutions that promote compositional clarity, formal simplicity, and an appropriate degree of asepsis, in line with the requirements of the healthcare context.
