Preliminary Design for the Cajamar Financial Center Building (Almería)

Cajamar is a financial institutional group with a strong reputation for reliability at the national level. Although this building is intended to house the companies owned by the group, its image must reflect the identity of the institution itself. In other words, it must project an institutional character of seriousness and solidity, while simultaneously conveying the image of a modern organisation with a forward-looking vision and a high level of professionalism.

In response to all these requirements, our proposal consists of a bold linear volume whose unity is defined by a large white marble band that, as if in an exercise of origami, folds to create the office spaces within—conceived as versatile and flexible areas. This simple design approach achieves the objectives we set out to meet, as it:

  • The building presents a clear and legible image in keeping with its intended role as a landscape element. It captures the attention of motorists travelling along the motorway, yet it settles into its surroundings in a calm and natural manner.
  • Through the gesture of the folded marble band, the building adapts to the natural slope of the terrain, resolving the level change and allowing the whole to be perceived as seamlessly integrated into its surroundings, without visual discordance.
  • The building presents a clear and comprehensible image, free of visual noise that could distort its perception, thereby conveying a sense of clarity and transparency—qualities particularly appropriate for a financial institution.
  • Finally, the use of materials and forms with a clearly contemporary vocation leaves the observer with a sense of modernity—an essential quality for an institution with a forward-looking vision.
