Project of 81 Houses in Valdemoro (Madrid) 2012
The building has 81 apartments with communal areas, a commercial premises on the ground floor, 28 storage rooms in the basement, underground parking (122 spaces), areas for facilities and reserving space for a transformer station on the ground floor.
This is a purely urban project in which the main priority was to find an architectural solution that would let us achieve high building density in a plot with less front and much depth. For this, we have opted for patios for ventilation of kitchens and stairways. This allowed us to further optimize the common areas, providing them with an attractive space with a low impact on the surface.
The outer walls, with a brick facade, are crossed by horizontal bands which include windows and solid panels, both in dark lacquered aluminium. Thus, using only two materials, we give unity to the whole, emphasizing its horizontality and facilitating their integration into the urban fabric.
The houses are arranged in two bocks, with a private area of gardens and access from both the pedestrian street and from both blocks. All interior tours are adapted for the use of disabled guests.
Block 1 has two doorways facing on the ground floor the Plaza del Duque de Ahumada and homes are organized around two core stairways and a lift from the first floor to the attic floor. Block 2 has a single doorsay which connects two separate stairways and an elevator from the ground floor to the attic floor. The commercial premises is situated on the ground floor of Block 1, facing the Plaza del Duque de Ahumada.
The underground parking is arranged in two and a falf floors, due to the existing unevenness in the plot. It is accessed via two one-way roads, one located in the Plaza Duque de Ahumada square and the other on the pedestrian street. The building has 28 storage rooms, linked to the houses, located in the basement floors 1, 2 and 3.
